Unconstrained Growth Into the Void is a transcontinental collective that formed atop a convergence of five seismic faults, The Dreaming Mountain, at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada. Now working together, but based in 5 different cities, our collective practice is informed by our individual backgrounds in painting, video, photography, sculpture, installation, architecture, and conceptual art.

In earnestness, UGIV converge to yield to the wills of centers of power, teleportation, metamorphosis, translinear thought, telepathy, pattern, chaos, and geometry, while at the same time bending them to ours. We share optimism in the potential of creative activity and are compelled to realize that potential in forms that are active, enigmatic, poetic, epic, numinous and beautiful. UGIV is specifically interested in how migrations of both the physical and intangible realms take form in time and space.

Our first project, Switchback: Pausing Time in the Rocky Mountains of Canada (2008), inspired by The Time Machine by H.G. Wells (1895), was produced during the Cosmic Ray Research Residency in Banff. Our mission was to pause time via an epic journey through a mystified landscape (actual and imagined). This project was presented at the Museo de la Ciudad, Queretaro, Mexico in April 2009.

While maintaining a transcontinental collective practice, we six members of Unconstrained Growth Into the Void strive to bridge tangible gaps through various forms of communication. Our next endeavor will be to attempt levitation in preparation for our next project entitled B612 and will be manifested in the group exhibition "Civilization & Its Discontents" in Toronto, October 2009
